Having a disability can be overwhelming in a lot of different ways. It can make us feel like we are not experiencing the world as it is and as we should be. The disabilities we are born with or we accidentally have can limit us and limit how we live our lives, and this can cause a lot of us to feel depressed. A study has shown that people who live with disabilities double their chances of developing mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety, or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Worldwide, there are about 15% of a billion people who have some disability. Unfortunately, people with disabilities are growing rapidly due to population aging and increased chronic health conditions.

Many people with disabilities experience a mental illness that can cause them a great deal of harm, more than what people without a disability can experience. There are many horror stories of people with disabilities who get turned away from treatment facilities or hospitals when they seek help with their mental health issues solely because they are disabled. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), people with disabilities have less access to health care services, which leave them experiencing unmet health care issues. This can harm a whole group of people. After all, they are not receiving the help they need because they are discriminated against.

Leaving mental illness untreated and/or undiagnosed can cause many different issues with other areas in our lives, like with our physical health. What happens is if we leave our mental illness untreated, our physical health can go through a serious decline, and if you are already disabled, this can cause you a lot more physical stress. We must be all able to have access to mental health assistance and care when we need it.

Since a lot of people with disabilities get turned down, leaving their mental illness untreated. A group of individuals has formed an organization that fights for people with disabilities to gain access to help for their mental health issues just like everybody else. They also offer other people with disabilities a community of people who understand and listen to their struggles. If ever you want to be part of this movement, you can look up Live On.

Other than this movement, different apps have been made available to us that could help us with our mental health struggles. These apps have different functions, but they are ultimately tailored to help people with their mental illness and struggle.

We are working at that there are many ways that we can get the help that we deserve, and we should never let our disabilities become a hindrance for us to get the help that we need and deserve. Disabled or not, we all have a right to be given health care in the cheapest and most accessible way possible.  We should not allow ourselves to struggle just because we could not afford or be given access to the help we need.

There are a lot of different ways to combat mental illness, such as exercise. Taking care of our bodies can help with your mental health as well. Studies have been published showing that our bodies and our minds are connected in many ways than one. So if we take care of our bodies, then we take care of our minds. Another thing is counseling or even just having someone to talk to about our struggles. This can already be a huge part of our journey towards healing.

Everything that is happening to us in this world happens for a reason. Our disabilities do not define us as people, and it does not really reflect who we are. In all honesty, I see people with disabilities be stronger than the people who do not live with disabilities. They live through battles that most of us cannot even imagine going through, and at the end of the day, they show up and show the world that they are back and they are ready to fight.

Do not let your circumstance bring you down. Remember that there is always hope. Some people understand and can help you.

If you do need help, do not hesitate to call. If you get turned down, turn to the people who you trust and that you know will support you through your hardships. You are never alone in this world, and you do not have to go through challenges all on your own. Truth be told, as cheesy as it may seem, there will always be someone out there who is ready to be part of your life and will help you through the darkest times.
